Everyone would agree that remakes really don’t work. I’ve seen many movies that are being remade but without success especially movies from horror genre. Many Asian i.e. Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese horror movies are really scary but are typical: they usually have long dark straight hair, scary red eyes, and weird crawling style. Anyhow they still work wonders in scaring the hell out of you! One of the movies that attracted Hollywood and Bollywood movie makers was that of “The eye” which is actually a Cantonese movie. The original was really scary unlike the remakes which stars Jessica Alba in Hollywood remake and Urmila Matondkar in Bollywood. I don’t mean to say it wasn’t scary at all but compared to the original one it wasn’t at all upto the mark. Then we have the grudge and the ring which are just a rip off from the Japanese movies.

And then we have a list of movies which were directed for the Indian kids, which by the way is a really good step and that were achieved by the Hollywood movie makers ages ago, and a list of those that impressed some and another list of “borers”. The movie that I watched recently was that of “thora pyar thora magic” and I was confused as to whom the movie was targeted-mothers would have been trying to shut the eyes off their kids at Ameesha Patel’s skin shows and adults would have been reduced to tears with the unnecessary cartoons thrown in. I had much preferred “Taare Zamin Par” where it catered to all kinds of audiences. But of course whom am I trying to compare with-Taare Zamin Par is and will be in the minds of the audience for long.
